The Whole of First Aid, in Six Days

~2,400 cards. ~400 a day. Five to six days for all 646 pages — and the reason it works is printed on every card.

Rereading First Aid before an NBME does not work, and everyone knows it while they are doing it. The book is 700 pages. Your eyes move, nothing locks in, and the week ends with a feeling of productivity and no evidence of it.

Reading is passive. Active recall forces your brain to retrieve the point — which is precisely what the exam asks you to do. Same content, completely different retention.

The arithmetic

The deck~2,400 cards, built page by page off First Aid
Per cardOne high-yield point, pulled from the actual lines of the page
Pace~400 cards a day
Total5–6 days for the entire book
It is not a 30,000-card monster. That is the whole point. Every card maps to a page you already own, so nothing is orphaned and there is no endless backlog to maintain.

Why the deck works — the page number

📕
The First Aid page number is printed on every single card. So the moment a card makes you hesitate — not fail, just hesitate — you open that exact page, read the topic, and read a couple of lines above and below it.
The gap closes on the spot. Not in a list of weak topics you will never open again. That single design decision is what turns a review session into a revision of the book itself.

The daily run

1
Pick one system. Finish it before you move. The deck is organised system by system in First Aid order, so you are revising the book in its real sequence rather than jumping around it.
2
Keep First Aid open beside you. Physically open. The whole method depends on the jump from card to page taking three seconds.
3
~400 cards a day. It sounds like a lot and it is genuinely doable, because these are one-line recall prompts rather than paragraphs. The deck is ~2,400 cards; the arithmetic gives you the book in 5–6 days.

There are only two moments to run it

📉
1 · Mid-system, when UWorld will not clear 65%. Pause the blocks. Watch the Mehlman playlist for that system, then run the Foundation deck for that same system — about two days — then go back to UWorld. Those are the direct First Aid lines, arranged page-wise, for every high-yield topic in the system.
🔄
2 · The pre-NBME reset. You have finished UWorld, a form is coming, and you need the whole book back in your head. You cannot reread 700 pages in a week. You can recall all of it in five to six days. Which form comes next →
That second use is what buys you a real baseline. NBME 27 and 28 only mean something if the content is actually in your head when you attempt them. Run the six-day pass first and the forms measure your knowledge. Skip it and they measure your forgetting.

What it does not replace

This is not a first pass. The deck revises what you have already read; it cannot teach you a system you never studied. Read the pages first — with the First Aid Guide, which decodes all 646 of them — then recall them with this.

And it is not the NBME deck. That is a different job entirely: the NBME Booster, 4,174 cards from the retired forms, run system by system before 31, 32 and 33.

Where this sits.
The four readings of First Aid — this is the fourth.
700 pages. Six days. One deck.
Page-mapped, system by system, with the page number on every card.
